'Tis the Season for Giving: PRMS Wraps Up Year With Donations to Three Charitable Organizations

The holiday season is in full force, and PRMS is getting into the spirit by making contributions to a trio of charitable groups that work tirelessly to help foster and promote good mental health.

Holidays

Instead of sending holiday cards or gifts, PRMS, which manages a medical malpractice professional liability insurance program for psychiatrists, is continuing its tradition of making end-of-year donations on its clients’ behalf to three worthy organizations:

Kraftlove Inc. shares a little love in every box by making creative crafting kits for children in hospitals. Since the program was launched earlier this year, Kraftlove has donated nearly 350 Kraftlove art kits. Meanwhile, the group continues to grow the network of medical facilities that it works with. In recognition of National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day in May, PRMS staff helped package kits for Kraftlove. We have loved watching this new nonprofit take off. At PRMS, we know how important it is to heal not only the body, but also the mind. For more information, visit www.kraftlove.com.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) works to build better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness and to combat stigma and encourage understanding. What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation’s leading voice on mental health. Each year, the toll-free NAMI HelpLine receives thousands of requests and provides referrals, information and support. NAMI also builds public awareness through events like NAMIWalks. This year, PRMS once again sponsored the Bronxters, a team of dedicated psychiatrists from the Bronx District Branch, who took part in the 2015NAMIWalks New York. For more information on NAMI, visit www.nami.org.

Give an Hour is a national network that provides counseling and treatment for our troops and their families by recruiting mental health professionals to volunteer their expertise and time. They address everything from anxiety, depression and substance abuse to post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. Today, Give an Hour boasts nearly 7,000 psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, drug and alcohol counselors, pastoral counselors, and others. At PRMS, we applaud the group and its caring volunteers. For more information, visit www.gveanhour.org.

Throughout 2015, PRMS and its dedicated employees continued giving back in a number of ways.  The company provided support for the New York State Psychiatric Association’s Veterans Mental Health – Primary Care Training Initiative, a series of free programs and lectures for primary care physicians and healthcare providers targeted at healing the invisible wounds of war. In September, PRMS helped sponsor the Brooklyn Psychiatric Society’s second annual Fun Run, Walk & Meet, which drew psychiatrists and psychiatric residents and included community outreach about mental health. And around Thanksgiving, PRMS helped package a staggering 1,600 bags of beans and rice for the Arlington Food Assistance Center.

We know this is a busy time of year, but as 2015 comes to an end, we would like to take time to thank our wonderful clients and all those who provide service to the mentally ill.  We wish everybody a wonderful holiday and a happy and prosperous new year. Happy Holidays!
