A Geriatric Psychiatry Conference That Sparked Growth and Inspiration
Attending the 2026 American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry Annual Meeting as an AAGP Honors Scholar was an incredibly meaningful experience. What began as an opportunity to learn more about geriatric psychiatry became a time of growth, reflection, mentorship, and inspiration.
The narrative medicine elective was especially impactful, reminding me of the importance of staying connected to the human side of care and truly listening to patients’ stories. The scholar programming and lectures also provided valuable insight into the rewards, challenges, and long-term possibilities within geriatric psychiatry.
Mentorship and Meaningful Connections at the AAGP Annual Meeting
One of the greatest takeaways was the mentorship and connections formed throughout the conference. Conversations with leaders, mentors, and peers helped clarify my goals and encouraged me to continue growing with confidence and purpose.
A personal highlight was celebrating my birthday during the conference and being surprised with “Happy Birthday” after receiving my scholar certificate — a moment I will never forget.
I left the meeting with a renewed sense of purpose, gratitude, and a deeper appreciation for the impact geriatric psychiatrists can have in the lives of older adults.
