American Association for Community Psychiatry 2025 Poster Presentation Reflection
In our efforts to support mental health initiatives and highlight the psychiatric programs and scholarships offered by our partners, PRMS is pleased to feature the winner of the American Association for Community Psychiatry (AACP) 2025 Poster Contest, Dr. Larayeb Wazir, a psychiatry resident at the New York Medical College Program in Boonton, NJ. Dr. Wazir shares more about her time attending the 2026 AACP Meeting and highlights her research. PRMS is delighted to support AACP’s awards and provide opportunities for AACP members to further their education and research efforts.

Presenting Opioid Use Disorder Research
At the 2026 APA Annual Meeting this May, I had the opportunity to present my research poster on opioid use disorder management in a community hospital setting, where I was honored to receive the Innovations in Heath Services Award from AACP. My research focused on examining approaches to opioid use disorder treatment and the challenges and opportunities involved in providing evidence-based care within the community hospital systems.
Key Takeaways on Addiction Psychiatry and Collaborative Care
Attending the meeting in San Francisco was an incredibly rewarding experience. I especially appreciated the sessions focused on addiction psychiatry, collaborative care, and innovations in patient-centered treatment. The meeting reinforced how important interdisciplinary collaboration and advocacy in mental health care are.
Why AACP and a Career in Community Psychiatry and Addiction Treatment
I became involved with AACP because of its strong commitment to mentorship, education, and fostering the next generation of psychiatrists. Psychiatry drew me in because of its unique blend of neuroscience, human connection, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. My career goals include continuing to work in psychiatry with a particular interest in community psychiatry, addiction treatment, and improving access to evidence-based psychiatric services. I look forward to connecting with colleagues and growing with AACP at future meetings.
