Happy Holidays from PRMS - Season’s Greetings, Season’s Giving

As part of PRMS’ ongoing commitment to support mental healthcare and in the spirit of the season of giving, we are pleased to announce our annual holiday support of three organizations working to improve mental health and wellbeing in communities both near and nationally this month – National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), Arlington Food Assistance Center, and Purple Heart Foundation. Each organization recognizes and supports the unique challenges faced by different members of society, from families in PRMS’ community and across the country to veterans, and we are proud to highlight their missions.

National Alliance on Mental Illness

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), an organization that provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build and live better lives. As the United States’ largest grassroots mental health non-profit, NAMI strives to aid every individual struggling with mental health with resources that foster health and fulfillment, and a supportive and caring community that continues to grow. Learn more about NAMI and support the cause at www.nami.org.

Purple Heart Foundation

For more than 60 years, the Purple Heart Foundation has worked to enhance the quality of life for Purple Heart recipients and other honorably discharged veterans and their families. The organization provides support across the country through various programs to help combat the emotional, medical and financial challenges faced when returning from combat and beyond – programs include academic scholarships, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Resources, service dogs, and Veterans Critical Assistance Grants. Interested in supporting Purple Heart? In addition to monetary donations, the foundation also accepts car and clothing donations. Find out more about how you can support at https://purpleheartfoundation.org/.

Arlington Food Assistance Center

Located in Arlington, VA, alongside PRMS, the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) has been feeding neighbors in need and providing nutritious supplemental grocery items since its founding in 1988. AFAC’s mission is to collect and distribute these items, free of charge, to people living in the Arlington community who cannot afford to purchase enough food to meet their basic needs. PRMS employees have been proud supporters of AFAC over the years, hosting collection drives in the office and volunteering to package and distribute donations. According to the AFAC website, while hunger may not seem to be an issue in a wealthy county like Arlington, the high cost of living combined with the current economic situation exacerbated by COVID-19 creates challenges for families struggling to make ends meet. Supplemental groceries provided by AFAC allow families to relieve their food budgets and make other necessary purchases without sacrificing health or nutritional needs.
