Background of the QCPS Resident’s Best Paper Contest
This year, Queens County Psychiatric Society (QCPS) celebrated its 20th Resident’s Best Paper Contest, which was started by Dr. Seeth Vivek, past president of QCPS and Associate Dean of Clinical Sciences and Chair of Psychiatry at Ross University School of Medicine. Residents from the four Queens Residency Training Programs – Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, Elmhurst Hospital Center, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, and St. John's Far Rockaway – are invited to submit an original study, case presentation, or review of literature to enter the competition. Every May, three papers are selected for an oral presentation and scored by a panel of judges for first, second, and third place. Monetary awards and recognition are presented at the QCPS Annual Dinner in June.
“Twenty years ago, we launched the QCPS Paper Contest with a simple belief: that the future of psychiatry would be shaped by the curiosity, courage, and compassion of our residents. As we celebrate two decades of groundbreaking ideas and transformative research, I am humbled by how powerfully that belief has been affirmed. This contest has not only honored excellence – it has inspired it.” – Dr. Seeth Vivek, founder of the contest

In May 2025, Dr. Mohan was awarded First Place in the Queens County Psychiatric Society’s Resident’s Best Paper Contest for her paper titled, “Unraveling the Mind: A Case of Huntington’s Disease Presenting with Psychotic Features.” Dr. Mohan has strong interests in child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as consult-liaison psychiatry.
A firm believer in the power of early intervention, Dr. Mohan aspires to pursue a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, where she hopes to channel her passion for mental health and commitment to patient care into developing specialized skills in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders in young populations. Outside of medicine, she enjoys reading, nurturing her collection of plants, and participating in trivia nights.
