PRMS Celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month

PRMS Celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month This May

PRMS Gives a Hoot for Mental Health Awareness Month 2020

This May in honor of Mental Health Awareness, PRMS is honored to support two national organizations advocating for mental health of children and youth in our communities, Child Mind Institute and The Trevor Project. As the provider of The Psychiatrists Program®, we are acutely aware of the importance of the mental health services that psychiatrists and other practitioners offer, and there is no better time than Mental Health Awareness Month to express our gratitude for the individuals and organizations working to advance mental health initiatives in their communities. Please also find below a link to our wellness resource.

Child Mind Institute

Nearly 1 in 5 children struggle from mental health or learning challenges, yet around 70% of counties in the United States do not have a child and adolescent psychiatrist, according to the Child Mind Institute website. The Child Mind Institute recognizes the need for compassionate, personalized and evidence-based care among young people, and is dedicated to advancing child and adolescent mental health. Through public education, research, clinical centers in San Francisco and New York City, and telemedicine support in certain states, the organization strives to combat the challenges that stigma, misinformation, and lack of access to care create for children and their families. Since its founding more than a decade ago, Child Mind Institute has helped more than 13,110 children receive clinical care and has educated millions of families, all while leading a revolutionary approach to the science of the developing brain through its Scientific Research Council, an advisory team of the country’s top leaders from various academic institutions. The Trevor Project

Founded in 1998, The Trevor Project was established by the creators of the 1995 Academy Award-winning short film, “TREVOR” to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning young people in the United States under the age of 25 – a group of around 1.8 million individuals. Providing programs and services such as a 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention lifeline, online chats and text messaging services with trained volunteer counselors (who had over 200,000 communications in 2021), as well as suicide prevention trainings, workshops, and resources, The Trevor Project is also committed to research that brings knowledge and clinical implications to the field of suicidology through a two-pronged approach. The first approach is through partnership “with external research organizations (such as academic institutions) to carry out complex investigations that range from program evaluations to interventions,” and the second is by monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating “existing data collected from Trevor-served youth to produce insights into vulnerable populations, suicidal risk factors, and social factors influencing suicidal ideation and attempts.” To learn more about The Trevor Project, support the organization, and get involved, please visit
