Reflection on the 2025 LPMA/MPA Annual Meeting
As part of PRMS’ ongoing commitment to behavioral health, we invited Doctor Zachary Robinson, PGY-2 Psychiatry Resident at the Mississippi State Hospital Psychiatry Residency Training Program, to be featured as a guest blogger this month. Dr. Robinson reflects on his experience attending the 2025 Annual Meeting co-hosted by the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association (LPMA) and the Mississippi Psychiatric Association (MPA) in New Orleans, LA, February 14-16, which PRMS was honored to support.
Engaging Discussions on Key Topics
At the 2025 LPMA/MPA Annual Meeting, I was able to spend time with experts in the field of psychiatry, fellow physicians, and even state representatives. I participated in discussions on topics such as traumatic brain injuries, kratom, sleep, and early psychosis. One highlight was an insightful conversation regarding malpractice insurance with a PRMS Underwriter, which helped me sidestep a major potential issue I was previously unaware of. Thanks to attending this amazing meeting, I was able to obtain many skills to help advance my career.
Meeting State Representative Samuel Creekmore IV
My favorite moment of the conference was meeting my state representative, Samuel Creekmore IV. Representative Creekmore was part of a nearly two-hour panel that allowed meeting attendees to ask questions and discuss issues facing our practices and our patients. After the panel presentation, I spoke with Representative Creekmore one on one to discuss a specific issue I had experienced regarding the new facets of the commitment process in Mississippi. He was so humble and genuinely wanted to hear from everyone. Having a voice to help shape the future of policy in my state is such a unique and powerful experience I've rarely had before, and it taught me how important it is to advocate for our patients and our profession.
Advocating for Patients and Advancing My Career
Over the span of a few days, I enhanced my healthcare knowledge thanks to the generosity of PRMS and the Resident Achievement Travel Award, which allowed me to attend the MPS/LPMA Meeting. I was able to advocate for my patients, gain knowledge on important topics, and discuss with fellow physicians ways to navigate challenges we face. I look forward to implementing the concepts gained from this conference and paying it forward as the field of psychiatry continues to advance!
