Objectives:

At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Competently perform a suicide risk assessment
  • Understand the method of evidence based psychiatry as applied to suicide risk assessment
  • Describe the FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) and their impact on clinical practice
  • Explain the likely outcome of the proposed Opioid REMS program
  • Describe how the adoption of EHRs can advance the goals of REMS and make REMS programs fit more efficiently into prescriber workflow
  • Identify three significant risks associated with forensic practice
  • Explain two duties that courts are requiring of IME physicians
  • Define the four types of activities that are considered expert witness testimony
  • Recognize at least three attributes of acceptable expert witness testimony according to the Federal Rules of Evidence
  • Understand the purpose of a deposition in a medical malpractice case
  • Be an effective witness, as a physician, in one's own defense
